Free and self-hosted

Live chat is free. Premium is $19 per agent per month.

Install DChat on your own server and run live chat with as many agents and as many sites as you want, permanently, at no cost. Premium adds the AI assistant, custom roles, automation, extra channels and voice calls. Enterprise adds single sign-on and advanced SLA policies. No tier ever limits how many agents you can run.

Everything on this page describes the ASP.NET Core edition, the package we recommend. The separate Web Forms package covers core live chat; it does not have two-factor sign-in or anything added in versions 2.0.5 to 2.0.9, which includes every paid feature except the AI chatbot.

If a subscription lapses, live chat keeps running

A Premium or Enterprise subscription covers its features, new versions and email support for the months you bought. After that you can renew, or not. Here is exactly what happens either way.

If you renew

The paid features carry on without interruption.

Every version released during your term, as it ships.

Email support with a first-response target.

If you do not

Live chat keeps working, with unlimited agents. No kill switch, no data held back. Nothing contacts us unless you switched on automatic license renewal yourself.

The paid features switch off. The roles, rules, macros and other settings they created stay stored, and come back the day you renew.

Messages on extra channels keep arriving, but replying through them needs Premium. Calls keep being filed and go to voicemail. The Slack integration stops posting.

Founding customers

If you bought a DChat licence before per-agent pricing, you keep Premium for life. If you bought the Enterprise or Source Code licence through the client center, you keep Enterprise for life. There is nothing to renew and nothing to install: your existing licence file carries on working.

One exception: licences from our older store do not record which edition was bought, so DChat can only recognise them as Premium. If you bought Enterprise or Source Code there, ask us for a replacement licence and we will send one that unlocks Enterprise.

Questions we get asked

Why is live chat free?

Because charging per agent for live chat punishes you for growing a support team, and a free edition that is crippled helps nobody. Community is the whole live chat product with unlimited agents, permanently. We charge for the features that cost the most to build and support - the AI assistant, automation, extra channels, single sign-on - and that is what lets live chat stay free.

What happens if I stop paying?

The paid features switch off and nothing else does. Live chat keeps working with unlimited agents, your database and history are untouched, and the settings and data the paid features created stay stored. Messages on extra channels keep arriving, but replying through them needs Premium; calls keep being filed and go to voicemail; the Slack integration stops posting. Renew and everything comes back as you left it.

How does per-agent billing work?

You choose how many agents to cover and for how many months, and pay for those agents up front: $19 per agent per month for Premium, $49 for Enterprise. Agents you do not choose to cover are not billed. A twelve month, three agent Premium subscription is $684. Adding agents mid-term adds them from the day you buy, and nothing renews automatically.

I bought a DChat licence before per-agent pricing. What now?

You keep Premium for life, with nothing to renew and nothing to do. If you bought the Enterprise or Source Code licence through the client center, you keep Enterprise for life. Your existing licence file carries on working. Licences from our older store do not record which edition was bought, so DChat can only recognise them as Premium; if you bought Enterprise or Source Code there, ask us for a replacement licence. We are not taking away something you already paid for.

Where does my data live?

On your server, in your own SQL Server database, on every tier. DChat is self-hosted: conversations, contacts and transcripts never pass through us, and the AI assistant uses the model you choose - a local Ollama install, or your own OpenAI or Anthropic key.

Do I pay per conversation or per resolution?

No. We never meter your conversations. You bring your own model, so a local Ollama install costs nothing per message, or you use your own OpenAI or Anthropic key and pay that provider directly at cost. Your bill from us is the same whether the assistant answers ten conversations a month or ten thousand.

Does DChat phone home?

Not unless you ask it to. Out of the box nothing contacts us - there is no beacon, no usage reporting and no license check over the network. On Premium or Enterprise you can optionally switch on automatic license renewal, which once a day sends your existing license file to us over HTTPS and gets back a renewed one. That is all it sends - no usage figures, no conversation data, nothing about your visitors or agents. It is off by default, and leaving it off simply means we email you a license file when you renew.

Nothing to evaluate. Just install it.

There is no trial to start and no card to enter. Download the free edition, run it on your own server, and add Premium later if you want it.

Self-hosted customer support software

Deploy live chat on your own terms, not on someone else's pricing model.

DChat gives you the installable server, web dashboard, website widget, and desktop agent tools in one self-hosted product, with live chat free to run, and an AI agent that answers, acts with the approvals you set and hands off to your team when you want one. Run it on infrastructure you trust, on the model you choose.

Deployment

Install on Windows or Linux, behind IIS or Nginx, in a VM, or in Docker if that fits your stack.

Commercial model

Live chat is free with unlimited agents. Premium, with the AI agent, is billed per agent per month, never per conversation.

AI Flexibility

Run the AI agent on a local Ollama model, or connect OpenAI and Anthropic with your own provider accounts.
